Строительство судна было начато в 1992 году Астраханским морским судостроительным заводом. Однако из-за финансовых затруднений у заказчика строительство было заморожено. В 2001 году судно было передано на Рыбинский судостроительный завод, где было достроено в октябре 2002 года. В январе 2003 года сдано в эксплуатацию.
